Federal prosecutors on Monday said they are willing to file additional charges against NBA player Terry Rozier in the gambling scandal that has rocked the league during the 2025-26 season.
Prosecutors said during the trial that they were trying to file new charges instead of bribery and wire fraud in sports and honest services. Prosecutors said they have evidence that the former Miami Heat guard solicited and received bribes as part of the alleged gambling scheme.

Rozier filed a motion to dismiss the charges against him after his lawyers argued that the wire fraud charge was based on a theory that the Supreme Court rejected two years ago and that the government had failed to prove allegations of a money laundering conspiracy.
Prosecutors argued that the defendants lied and cheated to steal money and that this was a classic case of wire fraud.
“Our motion to dismiss is based on the notion that they chose an invalid legal theory to try Terry Rozier,” Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, said. he told ESPN. “We’ll see what they do to fix that in the renewed indictment, but I anticipate we’ll have trouble with that.”

Rozier was arrested in 2023 for allegedly being involved in a game in which he played less than 10 minutes with a foot injury. Before the game, multiple people placed high bets for Rozier to perform poorly, and they all won.
Authorities claimed that Rozier told a childhood friend that he would remove him from the game between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans in March 2023. The friend allegedly shared this information with bettors for profit, and the bettors then placed bets based on specific Rozier statistics, according to the indictment.
According to the Justice Department, neither Hornets officials nor bookies were informed of Rozier’s plan. The Hornets later traded Rozier to the Heat.
Miami waived Rozier earlier this month.
Rozier was one of more than 30 people, along with NBA figures Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones, implicated in FBI investigations into allegations of illegal gambling linked to organized crime families. While Billups and Jones allegedly participated in rigged poker games, Jones also allegedly leaked non-public information about NBA games so that those close to him could place bets that would provide a competitive advantage.
