Quick and easy way to dry clothes in winter without dryer | UK | News

As energy costs continue to be high, many of us are wondering how to dry our clothes in the winter without running up huge bills.
The Energy Trust found that washing machines and dishwashers, as well as tumble dryers, contribute significantly to 14% of household energy consumption. Some dryers can cost as much as £1.76 per cycle, which adds up quickly.
On warm, sunny days, clothes can be dried outdoors, but as we’re entering December it’s unlikely we’ll see any of this anytime soon.
Additionally, drying laundry indoors can increase the humidity level in your home, leading to mold and dampness. Not only will this give your clothes an unpleasant odor, but it can also pose health risks.
So what is the solution?
Some followers of cleaning guru and influencer Mrs Hinch took to Facebook to share their advice, and many others suggested the same solution.
In the group called ‘Mrs Hinch Made Me Do This’, one social media user shared: “I use a tumble dryer with a dehumidifier, it dries faster than my tumble dryer.”
Another said: “I swear by my dehumidifier. Hang the laundry in the utility room, close the door and a load dries in four hours,” while a third added: “Wouldn’t be without it [my dehumidifier]. It’s scary how much water it takes. No more moisture issues and our clothes stay dry throughout the night x”.
Dehumidifiers work by drawing moisture from your damp clothes while also protecting them from hot air that can dry them out. A range of options are available with different price points, but these can be purchased from around £25.
And if you don’t need to run the dryer, it can quickly pay for itself.
