Gandhi also demanded immediate action against the guilty police officers and said the family of the deceased should be given protection.
“In Gazipur, Uttar Pradesh, rape and brutal murder of a girl from the Vishwakarma community, followed by threats and violence to prevent the family from lodging an FIR.
“Hathras, Kathua, Unnao and now Ghazipur; it’s a pattern. The girl from Manipur breathed her last while waiting for justice,” he said in his Hindi post on X.
He said it was the same face every time and the victim was Dalit, backward, tribal or poor.
“It’s the same truth every time; protection for the criminal, persecution for the victim. Every time, the same silence for those in power who should be speaking.”
“In a country and state where parents have to beg even to get an FIR filed for their daughters, the government of that country has no moral right to remain in power,” Gandhi said in his post. he said.
“Action must be taken against the guilty police officers, the family must be protected, a high-level investigation must be conducted and justice must be delivered immediately,” the senior Congress leader said.
Posing questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, he said, “Modi ji, Prime Minister ji, give an answer – why are girls so insecure under your rule?” he asked.
Gandhi said, “In such cases, justice is not begged for, justice is usurped. We will grab it.”
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that the reluctance to file a case against the murder of a girl in Ghazipur, followed by threats to the victim’s family and the chaos spread by the powerful shows that atrocities against women in the state have reached its peak.
“Under the BJP, this has now become an unspoken law: every time a woman faces cruelty, the victim herself is further tortured,” he said.
In a Hindi post on channel X, Vadra said: “The Prime Minister’s big statements on women are just for show. Be it Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj or Ghazipur, wherever women have faced injustice, the BJP has used all its might to side with the oppressor against the victim. Women across the country are witnessing the reign of this darkness.”
On April 15, the body of a young girl was found near the culvert in Katariya village in Karanda area of Ghazipur district, with her family alleging sexual assault and murder. While the police continue the investigation, relatives and local people are loudly voicing their demand for justice.
