Is the 3I/ATLAS Comet Actually Alien Technology? No.

This comet, called 3i/Atlas, is the third interstellar visitor to our solar system, which will be observed by astronomers. At the end of this month, it will pass after Mars and will be prevented from our reappearing view in December. Between 5.6 kilometers and 320 meters, 3i/Atlas travels at a speed of 209,000 km/h. This is fast enough to go from Earth to the Moon in about one and a half hours.

For most astronomers, the chance of observing 3/jump is the opportunity to better improve our understanding of objects passing through our solar system. But for a controversial Harvard physicist, it represents more: smart world life.

A alien ambassador?

Avi Loeb, a somewhat famous Harvard Science Professor, quickly jumped into the story of 3i/Atlas. Only days after the first sight, he questioned whether it was a comet or something else. Two weeks after learning this, a preliminary print (ie it wasn’t officially published or peer was evaluated). The origin of the comet increased the likelihood of being alien, summarized several key points.

These points included the fact that the orbit plane of 3/Atlas was very close in five degrees in five degrees, in five degrees. Secondly, the object looked extremely big, more than 20 kilometers of diameter, which rarely seen a comet. In addition, there was also the fact that Venus, Jupiter and Mars, which he referred to as an unexpected coincidence. In the end, he claimed that the coma we expect from a comet was not a good evidence for gas trail.

Loeb, which is based on the “Dark Forest” solution to the famous Fermi Paradox, argued that the intelligence behind the 3I/Atlas is malicious and can plan to target the Earth. He worked at the point where he would pass behind the sun, hide from the Earth and use the gravity of the sun to shake the Earth to destroy all of us.

He publishes blog posts for months Middle Almost every day, more information about 3/Atlas summarizes their theories. However, other astronomers and now NASA emerged with information that disrupts their theories.

An interesting exercise

Even Loeb himself does not want to undertake his theory. In the last article, Loeb and his friends think that “it does not necessarily attribute” to the theory, but it is “an interesting exercise on its own and fun to follow”.

In addition, this exercise in 2017 ‘OumuamuaThe first interstellar object to enter our solar system was probably of artificial origin. Radio commissioned astronomers to monitor the alien signals from the object. They did it and wasn’t there.

Three years ago, Loeb thought that a meteor entering the atmosphere could be the debris of a foreign spaceship, referring to the seismic data collected from the accident zone. Last year, the planetary seismologist Benjamin Fernando led a team that found the reason for strange readings. It was a driving truck by the sensor.

In a follow -up interview New York TimesFernando said two packages, “One is one, if you want to make seismic analysis, it is ideal if you control it with a seismologist. The other is not alien.”

Point One has come a long way to explain why Loeb’s “interesting exercises” have taken so many skeptics (and clearly mockery) from astronomers. Loeb is actually no expert in any science he does. Astronomy is a great area and a man with a Galaxy dynamics (such as Loeb) cannot be entitled to talk about comet stars, for example.

After respected in the field, Loeb’s newspapers are now in preparation for mostly preliminary preparation, and his colleagues, like Astrophysical Professor Steve Desch, said that Loeb “limited the good science we do with this ridiculous sensation and sucking all oxygen from the room.”

If it looks like a comet and quacks like a comet

The more we learn about the comet, the more ridiculous and hasty the claims of Loeb’s claims. Once, not as big as Loeb claims. Observations from the Hubble telescope now show that 31/atlas are smaller or smaller than 2.8 kilometers. Loeb is far from 46 kilometers. In fact, Loeb showed the article showing that it was 2.8 kilometers and simply … Choose to ignore it.

As in previous cases, other astronomers were not affected by the science behind Loeb’s brave theory. Steve Desch described the article as “sloppy work below a undergraduate level” and rated it accordingly.

The comet has interesting features. It can have a different chemical composition than we are accustomed to coming from outside our solar system. But as NASA’s chief scientist Tom Statler said for the corpses of Solar System System Guardian“He looks like a comet … He’s doing something. Very, very strongly resembles, to the comets we know in almost every aspect. This is a comet star.”

Loeb’s 3/Atlas has accepted the stadiums in a strange way – because it is normal for the comet to do it. Even those from our solar system can react inexplicable as it approaches the radiation of the sun. Tailed stars mostly ice and the heat of the sun melts ice pieces, causing changes in size, shine and composition.

It’s not just boring alien hatred, based on visionars that dare to imagine the impossible dream. Most of the scientists who criticize Loeb’s work are from institutes like sets dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial life. They think that Loeb’s remarkable, unreliable claims discredit the whole field and make it difficult to do real science.
