Rain, thunderstorm to bring relief in Gangetic Bengal till May 30

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in different parts of West Bengal by the end of this week in the southern and western parts of the state, which are sweltering due to hot and humid conditions.
Kalaikunda in Jhargram district recorded the state’s highest daytime temperature of 41.5°C on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, followed by Medinipur and Jhargram, both of which recorded maximum temperature of 39.4°C.

Light to moderate rain at several places in north Bengal prevented maximum temperatures from rising. Malda town recorded the highest rainfall of 32.6 mm, followed by Rampurhat with 28 mm and Raiganj with 22 mm.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Ganges West Bengal may record a drop of 2 to 4 degrees in day temperatures due to thunderstorms, rain and strong winds by May 30.
Western districts of Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman and Jhargram sizzled on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with maximum temperatures hovering around or above 40 degrees Celsius.
