Rajamouli Declares Sandeep Reddy Vanga the ‘Baap of RGV’

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has made a strong impact with just three films. After his debut film Arjun Reddy, opposite Vijay Deverakonda, was a sensational box office hit despite its gritty narrative, Sandeep quickly became one of the most sought-after directors in Tollywood. He went on to make a big statement in Bollywood as well with back-to-back blockbusters Kabir Singh and Animal.

Sandeep Reddy’s disrespectful tone and sass when dealing with his critics often earns him comparisons with maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. Like RGV, Sandeep never hesitates to express his opinions in public or challenge norms during media interactions. Interestingly, RGV himself has often praised Sandeep’s skill, belief and fearless approach.

Even India’s biggest filmmaker SS Rajamouli has great respect for Sandeep Reddy. At a recent film event, Rajamouli likened him to RGV and said such directors come “once in a blue moon”. Taking his praise a step further, Rajamouli reportedly called Sandeep Reddy “RGV ka Baap” (RGV’s father) after the release of Animal.

This statement came from Ram Gopal Varma himself during a recent roundtable discussion with Nagarjuna and Sandeep Reddy as part of their Shiva 4K launch.

Rajamouli is said to have been deeply impressed by the way Sandeep challenged conventional storytelling norms, especially the way he crafted his characters and scenes. His bold and instinctive approach to filmmaking, reminiscent of RGV’s early days, earned him the admiration of some of the biggest names in Indian cinema; And all in just three movies.
