NYC police investigate after group caught on video entering sewer via manhole

New York City police are investigating after several people were caught on surveillance video this week entering the sewers through a manhole and emerging hours later.
“Earlier today, authorities conducted an extensive investigation following reports of unauthorized access to the sewer system on McDonald Boulevard,” the NYPD said on social media. “NYPD and other agencies have completed their sweeps and confirmed that the area is safe and free of hazards.”
People seen It enters a manhole in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood around 11 p.m. Thursday and reemerges around 2 a.m. Friday, according to PIX 11-TV.
According to the information provided by the station based on the police, another group was seen entering the sewer hole on another street and coming out at the same time.

Police don’t yet know who the sewer investigators are or what they are up to.
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection also conducted its own investigation, telling Fox News Digital: “DEP inspected the sewer infrastructure in this area and found no damage to the system.”

The spokesman warned: “Entering a sewer system is both illegal and extremely dangerous. Drains can contain a multitude of hazards, including harmful and potentially lethal gases, unstable surfaces, flood risks and confined spaces. For these reasons, members of the public should never enter a pipe, drain, catch basin, sewer or outfall.”
