Judge Kim Bailey Phipps ruled that Knox was “grossly negligent,” and a default judgment is imposed when a lawsuit goes unanswered or a party fails to appear in court. In this case, it was reported to be the latter.

“We asked the court to enter default judgment because we have to be ethically diligent,” Kuykendall’s attorney, Marc Lenahan, told ESPN when the motion was filed. he said.

“Personally, we’re pleased that Teddy hasn’t made any other mistakes that we know of. If a team gives him the chance to prove that he’s on the right path now, we’ll support him.”

Rice was also required to pay the victims nearly $115,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses as part of the plea agreement.

Rice was also suspended for six games last season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, where he served.

The 25-year-old receiver said in a statement released by his lawyer at the time of the league’s decision that he “has spent many sleepless nights thinking about the harm my actions have caused, and I will continue to work to the best of my ability to make sure everyone affected is made whole.”
