Reading meningitis outbreak update as new case confirmed in junior sch | UK | News

A fourth case of meningitis in the outbreak in Reading has been confirmed in a secondary school student. The child is part of a group of students who contracted Meningitis B (MenB).
A pupil at Westwood Farm Junior School has been diagnosed and is recovering in hospital, West Berkshire Council said today. It comes after Lewis Waters, a sixth-form student at Henley College in Oxfordshire, died from the disease last week. On Tuesday, health protection advisor at the UK Health Security Agency, Dr. Rachel Mearkle said: “A fourth case of meningococcal disease has been confirmed in Reading.
“This fourth case has links to the same wider social network as the other cases where measures, including antibiotic prophylaxis, were already implemented.”
