Jeff Bezos issues statement after Blue Origin New Glenn rocket explosion | US | News

The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. local time on Thursday, May 28, as Blue Origin was preparing to fuel its New Glenn rocket ahead of a planned static fire test when the explosion occurred, CBS News reported. After its third successful launch last month, the aerospace company was preparing the rocket for a mission scheduled for June 4, which would be the fourth of the New Glenn program.
In images circulating online, an explosion can be seen coming from the base of the rocket before an explosion towards the pointed end of the spacecraft, before smoke rising up the rocket’s shaft. The entire ship is then engulfed by an enormous, bright yellow cloud of flame.
The full extent of damage to the Blue Origin launch pad and associated ground support equipment remains unclear. It is unclear what delays the project will face as a result of the explosion.
