Head-on semitruck crash causes large oil spill on Central California highway
A head-on collision between two trucks near Avenal in Kings County on Thursday morning caused a 3,000 gallon oil spill and shut down the highway for hours.
The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on Highway 33 north of South 7th Street in Avenal, according to Kings County spokesman Michael Powers.
The accident spilled approximately 3,000 gallons of crude oil onto the scene, Powers said.

The drivers of two trucks suffered minor injuries and one driver was ejected from the vehicle by the Kings County Fire Department. Both drivers refused to be taken to hospital.
The cleanup effort involved multiple hazmat teams and multiple law enforcement agencies.

The highway is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.
