Retail sales hit highest level since 2022

Retail sales reached their highest level since 2022 in September as good weather boosted clothing shopping, new data shows.
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show retail sales between July and September rose by 0.9% on the previous three months.
Retail sales increased by 0.5% month-on-month in September 2025, following a similar increase in August 2025.
In the non-store retail space, online jewelers reported strong gold demand, while computer and telecom retailers grew strongly.
ONS statistics are used to decide government policy affecting millions of people and are also used by the Bank of England to make major financial decisions, such as setting interest rates.
