Revealed: How Adam Peaty sent a ‘very formal text’ to his estranged mother to tell her his wife Holly Ramsay is pregnant – and what it means for the feud that has divided their families

Adam Peaty sent a ‘very formal message’ to his estranged mother, telling her she was expecting a baby with his new wife Holly, as he shared the news with the world on social media.

The swimming star’s scorned mum Caroline said: ‘I’m happy for them. According to a close family source, news of a new baby is always welcome.

But they said it was ‘extremely unlikely’ that the baby girl, due in December, would help heal the ongoing violent conflict.

An insider told the Daily Mail today: ‘The rift is beyond healing.’

The mother-of-four, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, was on holiday with her husband Mark when she received a text message from her Olympic athlete son, who was banned from attending his high-profile wedding in December.

It was no surprise that the couple planned and wanted their first child together, as the gifts on their wedding list included a piece from a luxury nursery furniture company that signaled their intention to start a family.

It was a beautiful Japandi rattan baby breast changer from Tutti Bambini in light oak; It had three large, soft-close drawers and a removable changing tray.

Former nursery nurse Mrs Peaty, 60, is already a doting grandmother and doting on her five-year-old son George, whom she shares with Adam’s former partner, artist Eirianedd ‘Eiri’ Munro.

Adam, 31, changed his name to Ramsay-Peaty after marrying influencer Holly, 26, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and his wife Tana.

The source said: ‘Caroline was on holiday. He received a rather formal text. We don’t want to reveal its content, but it was short and concise.

‘This message was sent as Holly shared the news on Instagram.

‘There was no happy meeting, no phone call, just a quick mobile phone message.’

The family, who wants to make amends with Adam, believes that his new life with the Ramsays ‘turned his head and changed him’.

Adam hopes to make history at next month’s Commonwealth Games and become the first British swimmer to win four consecutive gold medals in the event. The family source stressed that he will do so at Team England under his new name because ‘the Ramsay name opens doors’.

According to a close family source, the swimming star’s mother Caroline, pictured with husband Mark and Adam, said she was happy for the couple.

In an emotional interview with the Daily Mail last autumn, Ms Peaty revealed, without wanting to make it public, that ‘dark family matters’ had led to the feud.

She sobbed at the time and said: ‘I know you don’t think I’m good enough for your new family.

‘Under Gordon’s clutches. I can’t help but feel like they’re pushing him away from me. Their parents are very insular, it’s their group and it’s like they’re being raised by them.’

She added: ‘The man broke my heart but I love my son and always will, he’s still my little boy and I hope his marriage works out and I hope he has a happy life like his mum and dad’s.’

Mrs Peaty, who has been with her husband since 1989, has repeatedly said she wants her son to know: ‘I will never forgive anything you’ve done. I love you very much.’

She said: ‘Everyone has faults, I’m not a perfect mother.

‘Adam and I have always had a very good relationship but I found it challenging at times.’

He continued: ‘The incident between Adam and Holly broke me and divided me and my family.

‘If this is what money does to people, I’d rather stay as I am, because money isn’t everything. Life is more important and I think Holly and Adam need to learn what is important.

‘I have nothing against either of them, except that you don’t disobey your family.’

Loved-up couple Adam and Holly shared a sweet photo on Instagram in which the expectant mother showed off her bare bump.

In a joint post, they wrote: ‘Baby Ramsay-Peaty is due in December 2026. ‘We can’t wait to meet our daughter.’

Gordon, who has six children with his wife Tana, expressed his satisfaction with this news in his comment on Holly’s post: ‘Congratulations to you both, sending lots of love, dad.

‘I’m going to be a very excited grandad especially this Christmas @hollyramsaypeaty @adamramsaypeaty.’

Holly’s sister Tilly also said it was the ‘best news ever’.

Family friend Victoria Beckham wrote: ‘Congratulations!’

Adam has been completely adopted by Gordon and his wife Tana and even now calls them ‘dad’ and ‘mom’.

Gordon explained Adam’s new name for him: ‘He calls me daddy. He texted me and said, “Hey dad, what’s up? Hey dad, are you around later?” And it’s just like, “Oh my God.” Unbelievable.’

Gordon has previously defended the family when it comes to the Peaty/Ramsay conflict, saying it was all ‘on their end’.

She said: ‘We sent a car with a driver to come to the engagement party and treated them like royalty. So being subjected to this barrage of press was very hurtful. Tana took this very seriously.’

Commenting on how beautiful his daughter looked during his wedding speech, Gordon told Adam: ‘Look at Tana, that’s what you have to look forward to.’

She couldn’t resist a sly dig at Adam’s absent parents as she told daughter Holly: ‘It’s a shame you don’t have the same.’

Gordon, 59, who has six children with his wife Tana, shared his happiness at the baby news in his comment on Holly’s pregnancy post.

It was later revealed that the swimmer’s estranged mother was left ‘furious’ and ‘hurt’ because Gordon had mentioned the fight between them in his speech.

A family source told the Daily Mail she was horrified at the moment of the conversation and believed the celebrity chef had ‘pre-planned’ the brutal attack on her, describing it as ‘cruel’ and ‘very hurtful’.

But Gordon doubled down on his speech when he appeared on This Morning in January, insisting that what he had to say at the wedding ceremony was ‘perfect and warm’.

He said: ‘It’s hard to be honest. As a father of three daughters, you dream of that moment and then it comes and you’re a complete mess.

‘But the speech was excellent, it went well and you have to find that… You have to be warm, emotional… It’s a tough job.’

Since his marriage, Adam moved to London, having lived his entire life in the Midlands.

He recently said: ‘I love it. I’m still getting used to the tube maps. But something incredible happened. Perfectly timed.

‘Given being married, future family plans and everything going on, I think London is the best place for me. It helps me focus. ‘I can get into the area here.’
