Richard Osman responds to poll that shows Brits commonly mistake him for Andy Burnham
Quiz host and author Richard Osman and his wife responded to a survey. Independent This suggested that he was mistaken for Andy Burnham.
Mr. Osman posted a screenshot of a story on social media. Independent It was published last week with the headline: “Brits think Andy Burnham is Richard Osman and Mel Gibson.”
JL Partners research has shown that 18 million Britons (38 per cent of voters) cannot recognize the new prime minister from a photograph.
Osman, 55, referenced the BBC program in his cheerful response on Instagram Richard Osman’s Playhouse with the title: “Richard Osman’s House of Commons”.
Known for his love of snooker, Mr Osman’s playful response was echoed by his wife Ingrid Oliver: “I am running on a platform where powers are transferred from Westminster to the World Snooker Federation.”
Independent The story that led to their intervention came after a survey of 1,500 voters earlier this month found that some voters had confused Mr. Burnham with well-known figures, from Mr. Osman to Hollywood star Mel Gibson and billionaire Amazon boss Jeff Bezos.]
The report sparked shocking reactions from the public on social media: “Who is confusing Andy Burnham with Richard Osman? Mr. Magoo?… Richard Osman looks nothing like Andy Burnham.”
“Apparently, in a poll this week, 38 percent of people who wanted to ID Andy Burnham failed! Some people chose a picture of Richard Osman!”
“I would think 60 percent of them knowing who Burnham is is pretty high.”
Mr. Burnham was the subject of a conversation on Mr. Osman’s podcast last month. The Rest is EntertainmentHe co-hosts with journalist Marina Hyde.
They debated whether Mr Burnham was “really cool” in a podcast billed as “Richard discussing the former Mayor of Manchester’s ‘independent boy’ identity with a rifle through his record collection”.
In 2024, Osman Bey said that he was against celebrities getting involved in politics.

“Showbiz comes into play and we hear the views of the celebrities, we hear the importance of their views on the record of the different candidates and their views on the direction of the country in which they live…

“You can talk on any chat program you want, no one listens to you. Because during the elections, people think about their homes, neighbors, schools, cities, infrastructure and security…
“That’s all they think about, and when someone in show business gives an opinion on an election, they do the exact opposite of what they’re supposed to do, but they do it anyway.”
