Royal Family LIVE: Major update in Prince Harry court case as he’s given £38m warning | Royal | News

Prince Harry has been warned of the costly “consequences” of his £38 million privacy lawsuit against the Daily Mail over mounting legal fees. The Duke of Sussex is one of seven high-profile people who sued publishers of the Mail and Mail on Sunday over allegations of unlawful doxxing dating back decades; Associated Newspaper group denies this claim.

The case, which has been ongoing since 2022, is expected to go to full hearing in January, but the prince and his co-defendants have been given a warning about the significant costs they will have to pay in the event of defeat.

Harry, along with Sir Elton John, actress Sadie Frost and others, have collective insurance worth £14.1 million to cover the “total” of Associated Newspapers’ expenses, but some have also taken out individual policies worth £2.35 million, complicating the financial picture if they are not all successful.

Judge David Cook and Judge Nicklin said the estimated £38.8 million cost of the case was “clearly outside the reasonable range”.

They added: “It is imperative that the parties, and in particular the individual plaintiffs, have the clearest possible understanding of the consequences of the manner in which this litigation is being conducted… We have already incurred significant costs and the parties will soon incur more significant costs in preparation for next year’s trial.”
