Royal sends heartbreaking message to King: ‘I forgive you’ | Royal | News

Princess Delphine of Belgium has been reunited with her father, former King Edward II, after being rejected for more than fifty years. He announced that he forgave Albert. The 57-year-old was born from his father’s extramarital affair with Baroness Sybille de Selys Longchamps.

Princess Delphine, formerly known as Delphine Boël, spoke about her feelings for her father in an interview. He was only legally recognized as a member of the Belgian Royal Family in 2020, after years of court battles.

Princess Delphine and her mother previously had a close relationship with the former King, but this changed after he chose distance to save his marriage.

When he ascended to the Belgian throne in 1993, the situation further complicated the possibility of reconciliation with his illegitimate daughter.

Following success after a decades-long lawsuit, he was granted the right to bear the Saxe-Coburg surname and official status in the Belgian royal family.

The former monarch, now 91, left office in 2013.

This was due to the constitutional crisis that arose over his daughter’s refusal to submit to DNA testing in her legal proceedings.

In an interview that was recently made public, he said the following about the process: “Has the wound completely disappeared? No. Such a wound never completely disappears and does not turn into a scar.”

Princess Delphine said that she felt that her father would have acted differently if he had been surrounded by different people. He said: “I don’t think he’s surrounded by good people.”

Although he has reconciled with his father, he maintains a difficult relationship with the Royal Family at large. In addition to Delphine, the former monarch is also the father of King Philippe, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent and his wife, Queen Paola.
