Marco Rubio: Far-left political terrorism is a worsening international threat
Secretary of State Marco Rubio warns against the resurgence of far-left political terrorism, underscoring its global historical presence and increasing current threat. He gives examples of violent attacks, from fire bombs in Greece to assassinations of Marxist groups around the world. Rubio calls on international partners to unite, share intelligence and dismantle these interconnected networks of ‘toxic resentment’.

Secretary Marco Rubio’s call for global cooperation to fight far-left political terrorism may also draw in Neville Roy Singham, a Marxist nonprofit financier who now faces a federal grand jury investigation in New York.
Singham, a 72-year-old American who sold his technology company for $785 million in 2017 and currently lives in Shanghai, is known to fund pro-Chinese Communist Party groups operating in the United States. It has funneled $278 million to its vast network of nonprofits since 2017, according to Fox News Digital research. These groups regularly organize and participate in anti-ICE, anti-Israel, and pro-Iran demonstrations.
At a State Department summit in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Rubio called on more than 60 countries to address far-left global terrorism as a counterterrorism priority.

“But for too long, our counterterrorism doctrine has had a blind spot when it comes to extreme violence from the political left. Even today, the idea that far-left terrorism could be a serious threat is treated as a right-wing fever dream, or worse, a dangerous fascist plot,” Rubio said.
The networks are coordinated across multiple countries, provide training instructions and use encrypted communications to facilitate unrest, Rubio said. He said international cooperation was critical to prevent the financing of dangerous organizations and that some were working with hostile foreign states.
Rubio did not mention Singham’s name, and State Department officials did not respond to a request for comment.
Singham’s nonprofits are known to promote communist and Marxist ideals on social media platforms and in demonstrations across the country. Code Pink, co-founded by Singham’s wife, Jodie Evans, regularly protests at the US Capitol, confronting lawmakers and openly admitting that “China is Not Our Enemy.”

Rubio mentioned that Marxist beliefs can have dangerous effects when linked to acts of terrorism. He said the left often excuses violence committed by its own extremists.
“The bomb planted by a neo-Nazi group was a despicable and lethal act of evil,” Rubio said. “But a bomb planted by a Marxist revolutionary; I mean, it’s just a tragic excess of idealism. Maybe their means were misused or overzealous, but their ends were virtuous and just. That’s the sense of how they treated him.”
The Congress also took note of Singham’s activities. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., launched an investigation into Singham’s nonprofit network last year, and members of the upper chamber are also sounding the alarm about Singham’s ties to China.
“China-financed, anti-American billionaires like Neville Roy Singham are fomenting far-left chaos in our country,” Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., told Fox News Digital. “This needs to stop, and Secretary Rubio is rightfully taking action to confront this transnational scourge head on.”

Last month, Fox News Digital reported that the Department of Justice had opened a grand jury investigation into allegations of financial crimes. Singham did not respond to Fox News Digital’s repeated requests for comment.
A grand jury in Manhattan issued the subpoenas as part of an investigation launched by Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, one of the nation’s most powerful districts for federal investigations, according to people familiar with the matter. Acting U.S. Attorney Todd Blanche authorized the investigation at a time when the Trump administration is trying to crack down on fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes in the multibillion-dollar nonprofit sector.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met privately with Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon in New York earlier this year; Here, Bessent warned that the firm could come under scrutiny for its alleged role in the movement of funds linked to Singham, according to sources familiar with the discussion.

During the meeting, Bessent encouraged Solomon to fully cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation, telling him that Goldman Sachs’ handling of Singham-related funds could become part of the federal investigation if they chose not to cooperate.
A source with knowledge of the conversation told Fox News Digital that the conversation was cordial and that Solomon indicated Goldman Sachs would assist investigators.
“All distributions from Mr. Singham’s donor-advised fund were made to lawful nonprofit organizations designated by the IRS,” a Treasury spokesman said. “There have been no distributions from the account since August 2023 and the account was closed in early 2024.”
