Rumsey Fire in rural Yolo County reaches 450 acres as of July 21
California fire crews are making progress in controlling a vegetation fire that has spread across 450 acres. Rumsey Canyon, near the borders of Colusa and Yolo County.
As of the morning of July 21, the crew had gained control of approximately 15% of the ship. Rumsey Fire, according to Cal Fire.
The Rumsey Fire started around 3:40 p.m. on July 20 after the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection received a report of a potential vegetation fire near Sand Creek Road north of Guinda in the Rumsey Canyon area, according to Cal Fire.
The fire spread to 450 acres within hours, burning dry fuel and dead vegetation in the area. By late evening, Cal Fire crews were able to contain the fire as temperatures dropped and humidity levels rose, ultimately helping crews control the fire’s path.

As of July 21, Cal Fire has not reported any property damage, injuries, or loss of life in connection with the Rumsey Fire.
Rumsey Fire evacuations
The Colusa and Yolo County Sheriff’s Office has not issued an evacuation order for those areas as of July 21.
Cal Fire dispatched more than 175 personnel to contain this fire. By Tuesday morning, Cal Fire had 15 engine crews, six hand crews, five watercraft, four bulldozers and three helicopters helping fight the fire.
Rumsey Fire weather forecast
Weather conditions are expected to continue to be a factor for firefighters battling the Rumsey Fire over the next few days.
The Rumsey Canyon area is expected to see mostly sunny skies on Tuesday, with temperatures near 99 degrees, humidity dropping to about 18% and winds generally below 15 mph. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the low 70s as humidity increases, conditions that could help firefighters slow the fire’s growth.
Forecasters say it will be cooler on Wednesday, with a high near 87 degrees, then temperatures will climb back into the mid-90s and upper 90s by the end of the week. The forecast shows little to no chance of rain at least through the weekend.
