Russia should change its military doctrine to automatically oblige the Kremlin leader to use atomic weapons if a Western state declares war on it, a leading Putin adviser said.

Sergei Karaganov, known as ‘Professor Doomsday’, told the Moscow dictator that this move would immediately stop NATO countries from providing military support to Ukraine.

The Russian leadership sees NATO countries as accomplices to the war on the side of Ukraine.

Karaganov serves as Putin’s nuclear adviser and has said that any European state supporting Ukraine under the plan would “turn to dust”.

He stated that the same thing should happen to Germany and Finland if nuclear missiles were deployed on their territory.

“We need changes in our nuclear and military doctrines,” he said.

“One of the upcoming changes should be that Russia will be forced to use nuclear weapons and undertake to use nuclear weapons in the event of a war being declared against it by countries that surpass it in terms of demographic, economic and scientific-technical potential.

“So this is not an option, it is a necessity.”

He claimed this would “prevent any war”.

“We are currently deploying a new generation of strategic intercontinental ballistic missiles, each with a warhead capacity of 750 kilotons, or 7.5 megatons in total.

“A single missile of this type would be enough to reduce the average European country to dust.

“So that no one would even think of attacking Russian territory in any way….

“I imagine they will be able to hit not only super-intercontinental, but also much closer targets.

“We have enough on hand.

“We just need to make this clear: [the West] “Any war game (or any war game) against Russia will lead to their destruction.”

Karaganov, an influential Russian political scientist and honorary chairman of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy in Moscow, said: “If nuclear weapons spread across Europe, Russia will have to undertake to destroy the countries where such weapons appear, especially those countries that attack Russia.”

This applied “above all” to Germany, which “had no right to even mention having the strongest army in the world.”

If it seeks that status, “it must cease to exist.

But I hope Germany will come to its senses.”

Recent rule changes allow Finland to have nuclear weapons on its territory.

“Such a country has absolutely no right to even consider possessing nuclear weapons or deploying them on its own territory,” he said.

“We need to explain this to our neighbors to stop playing these games, because now they have put people with mouse intelligence into leadership positions.”

Finland, which shares an 833-mile border with Russia, has lifted a decades-old legal ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory, paving the way for allied nuclear weapons to be brought into the country if necessary for national or NATO defense.

Helsinki insists it has no plans to host nuclear weapons in peacetime, explaining the move as aligning Finnish laws with its new NATO membership and strengthening the alliance’s deterrence against Russia.

“Just like Finland giving up its neutrality, placing nuclear weapons on Finnish territory is tantamount to suicide,” Karaganov said.

“In the event of a conflict, these countries will be the first to be destroyed.”
