Two Jewish men are ‘seriously injured’ after being stabbed near Golders Green synagogue as knifeman ‘who was trying to attack members of the public’ is arrested

Two Jewish men were ‘seriously injured’ after being stabbed by a knifeman near a synagogue in north London. He was trying to attack the Jews.
Security group Shomrim said the man was seen running along Golders Green Road with a knife and “attempting to stab Jewish members of the public”.
Police officers were detained and arrested by Shomrim volunteers before being Tasered, according to the group that patrols ultra-Orthodox Haredi areas.
One man was stabbed outside a synagogue, another outside a shop; The footage shows at least one person performing CPR at the scene.
The incident occurred just minutes from where four Jewish community ambulances were bombed last month.
Police are also investigating arson attacks on two synagogues and a memorial wall.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the stabbings were ‘deeply worrying’.
Addressing MPs, he added: ‘I think we should all do everything we can to support this investigation and be absolutely clear in our determination to tackle these crimes, the likes of which we have seen so many of late.’
An eyewitness who gave their name as Shlomoh told the Daily Mail: ‘I arrived at the scene and the road was still open.
‘There were two police officers and a Shomrim member who tasered and shot the suspect.
‘They helped members of the public come out and take him into custody and within a minute and a half a large number of police arrived and the road was cordoned off within five minutes.’

Jewish charity Community Security Trust said: ‘There was a knife attack in Golders Green today. The suspect was arrested.
‘Thank you to @shomrimlondon, @Hatzola and @metpoliceuk for their quick responses.
‘We are working closely with the police and urge anyone with information to contact the police, Shomrim and CST immediately.’
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp described today’s stabbing as ‘yet another appalling anti-Semitic attack’.
“The Jewish community is not properly protected against this hatred,” he wrote to X.
‘We have seen Iran sponsoring antisemitic attacks and the proliferation of Islamist extremism. ‘The government must urgently step up concrete action against anti-Semitism, Iran and Islamic extremism.’
Police are currently investigating an arson attack on a memorial wall located just a few streets away from today’s incident.
The memorial wall was built in memory of the thousands of protesters killed in January’s crackdown in Iran and is located near a Jewish centre.
A section of the wall is dedicated to those killed in Hamas’ attack on the Nova music festival in Israel in 2023, while a more recent declaration of solidarity for the Jewish community is pinned to a nearby tree following the latest attacks.
Scotland Yard said police were called to reports of a fire there at 7.28pm on Monday and the investigation was being carried out by the Counter Terrorism Police.

The memorial wall itself was not damaged – although there were burn marks on the table – but was sealed.
Golders Green Road is about five minutes from where four Jewish ambulances were bombed in another shocking attack last month.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews added: ‘We are aware of a reported stabbing in Golders Green in which two people were injured. Police detained a suspect.
‘We are liaising with CST, the Government and the police to understand what happened and ensure a strong response.’
Yesterday, counter-terrorism police said they had arrested a suspect near an isolated Devon market town over a series of attacks on London’s Jewish community.
A 37-year-old man was detained by the Met Police on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts at an address near Barnstaple on Sunday night.
He was taken 210 miles to London for questioning. He was released on bail.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, is the 26th person arrested since the firebombing of Jewish community ambulances in Golders Green, two synagogues in north-west London and the former building of a Jewish charity.
There was also a drone attack in Kensington Gardens near the Israeli Embassy, where jars containing powdered substances were left, as well as an attack on a Persian-language media outlet in the capital that opposes the Iranian regime in recent weeks.
The pro-Iranian group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia (Islamic Movement of the Right Companions) claimed responsibility for the attacks.
There were arson attacks on Jewish community ambulances, a synagogue and a former Jewish charity in Golders Green, north-west London, as well as an incident in which a drone was flown near the Israeli embassy.
The firebombing of Golders Green caused gas cylinders stored in ambulances to explode, and the force from the explosion caused the windows of a nearby block of flats to shatter.
The roof of the synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, was damaged and its stained glass windows were broken in the fire. There were no injuries.
Counter-terrorism police are investigating the possible involvement of Iranian proxies.
The Met said last week that facilities linked to people opposing the Iranian regime were also targeted.
There were also attempted arson attacks at Finchley Reform Synagogue on 15 April and outside the offices of an Iranian media company in north-west London at around 8.30pm.
On Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to arson without endangering life at Westminster Magistrates’ Court following the attack on Kenton United Synagogue.
