Temporarily visitor restrictions in place at area hospitals amid increase in respiratory illness

Today, 29 hospitals and health systems in the region are implementing temporary visitor restrictions due to a recent increase in respiratory illnesses.

According to the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA), area hospitals are currently experiencing a higher than normal volume of patients with positive cases of respiratory illnesses, including influenza, COVID-19 and other seasonal viruses.

As part of the restrictions, people with respiratory symptoms such as cough, fever, chills, headache, vomiting, sore throat, muscle aches or diarrhea will not be allowed to visit.

The same applies to everyone under the age of 14, even if they have had the seasonal vaccine or when the appropriate vaccine was available.

Hospitals are asking community members who are not feeling well to delay visiting, especially if they are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or congestion.
