Russian envoy mocks Starmer with blistering five-word comment on ‘quitting’ rumours | World | News

Russia is celebrating rumors that Sir Keir Starmer may be preparing to resign with sarcastic posts on social media. Kremlin’s investment envoy Kiril Dmitriev reshared Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social stating that the Prime Minister “will resign”.
He added: “We did it. Starmer’s resignation unites us all.” In another post, Mr Dmitriev baselessly claimed Sir Keir was “interfering against Trump and on behalf of Kamala in the US election”. “Aliens… for showing your omnipotence and kindness by persuading Starmer to resign within two weeks of the request,” he added, “Can you please do Merz from now on?” he asked.
While the US President claimed that he “wished him well”, he criticized the British Prime Minister on the social media platform Truth Social for his stance on immigration and energy.
He wrote: “Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of the UK. He has failed miserably on two very important issues: IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him good luck! President DJT.”
It comes amid growing calls for Sir Keir to step aside following Andy Burnham’s victory at Makerfield on Thursday.
A Government source told The Telegraph it was understood some ministers were encouraging him to give a timeframe for his departure rather than rallying around him.
Transport Minister Heidi Alexander and Foreign Affairs Minister Yvette Cooper are said to be pressuring the Prime Minister to resign.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves remains one of the few senior cabinet figures still openly backing Sir Keir, who is understood to be spending the weekend with his family as he weighs his options.
As of Saturday, Downing Street suggested he wasn’t going anywhere.
