A heat wave of up to 26 degrees is expected in some parts of the UK. Brits could be ready to head to the beach on May 22 when maps show temperatures will rise. According to the latest maps of the Met Office, the hottest temperature will be seen in London at around 16.00 on May 22.

In the rest of the UK, temperatures will be around 25C in Manchester, 21C in Plymouth, 24C in Birmingham and 23C in Newcastle. The highest temperatures will largely be in England, but Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will also experience mild climates.

In Scotland the temperature will be around 18C in Aberdeen, 22C in Glasgow, 20C in Fort William and 22C in Edinburgh.

Temperatures in Wales will range from 20C to 24C, with the warmest climates in Wrexham and Newton.

In Northern Ireland it will be 20C in most places, with a slightly lower temperature of 17C in Castlewellan.

The Met Office’s long-range weather forecast for Wednesday 20 May to Friday 29 May says: Conditions are initially expected to change; Low pressure near the north of the UK will often bring rain and showers.

“However, towards the bank holiday weekend high pressure from the south is expected to start building rapidly near the UK, bringing some nice dry conditions and some with temperatures rising accordingly.

“From now on, high pressure combined with good weather conditions are expected to remain the overall dominant influence across much of the UK.

Low pressure will be located in the north and will cause rain or showers to pass over the country from time to time.

“Overall, temperatures are expected to be above normal throughout the period and winds are generally light for most.”
