Marks & Spencer reveals 500 proposed new store locations – check the map | UK | News

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has announced the 500 locations where it plans to open brand new, refurbished stores. The British supermarket is planning a significant expansion in the UK, especially when it comes to its food offering. It hopes to double the size of its food business, with thousands of new jobs potentially created as a result. There are currently 330 M&S stores across the country.

The high-end supermarket aims to increase this number to 180 mixed stores and 420 specialty food stores over the next few years. M&S’ ambitious new expansion plans are already taking effect as the supermarket prepares to refurbish 20 stores and create 800 new jobs by April. Ahead of the move, it revealed a list of 500 stores it wanted to open, aiming to bring more Brits closer to a shop.

M&S Managing Director Alex Freudmann said: “The strong performance of our new M&S food stores gives us the confidence to explore more locations across the UK, from Elgin to Exmouth.”

As part of the planned expansion, the company wants to target areas where there are currently no Marks & Spencer stores. They highlighted Hove, Marlborough and Wallingford as examples.

The new, larger layout has wider aisles for larger cars and larger car parks for more families. The move could indicate that many Brits may soon be closer to M&S.
