1 Killed In Crude Bomb Explosion In Dhaka

Dhaka: One person was killed in a crude bomb blast in Bangladesh’s capital on Wednesday, police said.
Eyewitnesses said unidentified persons threw the bomb from the flyover in front of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, the head office of the 1971 Liberation War veterans, in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area.
He died on the spot when a crude bomb was thrown from the flyover by unidentified persons, Hatirjheel Police Station Inspector (Operations) Md Mohiuddin was quoted as saying by The Daily Star newspaper. Police said the deceased was a private shop employee who was drinking a cup of tea at a roadside stall under the flyover. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
The incident occurred a day before Tarique Rahman, Deputy Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and heir to the influential Zia family, is due to return home on Thursday, marking the end of his nearly 17-year exile in the United Kingdom.
Home Advisor Lieutenant General (retired) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury had earlier said that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain utmost vigilance and take high-level security measures. Authorities created a “double-layered” security cordon combining state and party measures in Dhaka ahead of Rahman’s arrival.
