Scott Mills ‘stepping back’ from MS Society UK ambassador role after BBC sacking

Scott Mills has stood down as MS Society UK ambassador, the charity has confirmed.

The radio host has been a dedicated advocate for multiple sclerosis for over a decade; this determination stems from the fact that his mother, Sandra, was diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition.

The former Radio 2 DJ was sacked by the BBC after it was revealed the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into the 53-year-old in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offenses involving a teenager under 16 between 1997 and 2000.

The company later admitted it was aware of a police investigation into allegations of a historic sexual offense against Mills in 2017, but said it had “acted decisively” after receiving “new information” in the weeks before his dismissal.

A statement released by the charity on Tuesday said: “Scott Mills has been a valued MS Society Ambassador for over 10 years. In light of current news, Scott is stepping back from this role while we review the situation.”

“We take such concerns and the trust placed in us as a charity extremely seriously. Our priority is to ensure we can continue to support the MS community and everyone living with and affected by MS.”

Mills has served as an ambassador for the charity, which supports people affected by this condition, since 2015.

During her time with MS Society UK, the broadcaster has helped with fundraising events, including MS walks, and worked to raise awareness of the condition.

According to the NHS, MS; It is a central nervous system disease that affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves and causes symptoms such as fatigue, drowsiness, vision problems, and difficulty walking.

It was also announced that children’s cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK had decided to “part ways” with Mills, who has been its boss since 2021.

A statement from the charity said: “Following his sacking from the BBC, Neuroblastoma UK has decided to part ways with Scott Mills and he is no longer a patron of our charity.”

He has also been removed as host of the BBC’s new Race Across The World spin-off podcast.

On Wednesday last week, Mills released a statement through his lawyers saying he had been the subject of “rumor and speculation” since his firing and that he was “fully co-operating” with the police investigation into allegations of a historic sexual offence.
