Senator says ICE ‘attack dog’ caused ‘horrific’ injuries to unresisting man as he was detained | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement)

A US senator has condemned the Trump administration after claims an “attack dog” from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mauled one of his voters.
Patty Murray, a Democratic senator from Washington state, said Wilmer Toledo-Martinez suffered “horrific” injuries while being detained by ICE agents in November.
“An ICE agent lured Wilmer out of his home under false pretenses, posing as a construction worker who claimed Wilmer had crashed his car and asked him to come out to verify.” Murray said in a statement:. “Another agent, accompanied by a dog, was hiding nearby and released the dog shortly after Wilmer went outside.”
Toledo-Martinez, who was brought to the U.S. at age 15 and is undocumented, did not resist arrest or try to escape when the dog attacked, Murray said. He was being held at the Northwest ICE processing center, Murray said. He called for the immediate release of Toledo-Martinez, who said he was detained in front of his wife and two young children, all of whom are US citizens.
“Following the attack, Wilmer was shaking and dizzy, and at one point his vision went black, but he was denied medical care for hours,” Murray said.
“He was eventually taken to hospital and received stitches for his wounds. He was prescribed antibiotics and additional medications, but the antibiotics were not provided immediately and other medications were never provided.”
Photos provided by Murray show deep cuts on Toledo-Martinez’s side.
“This should shock the conscience of each of us,” Murray said. “I do not want to live in an America where federal agents attack dogs on peaceful residents with impunity and face no consequences.”
The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

News of the attack came as police in Vancouver, Washington, said they were investigating an incident in which an ICE agent ran over a man’s foot during an arrest. Oregon Live reported An ICE agent reportedly hit 27-year-old Jose Guadalupe Paniagua Calderon with his own vehicle during the arrest.
On Friday, U.S. congresswoman Adelita Grijalva of Arizona said she was “squirted in the face” by a chemical agent during a protest against a federal immigration raid at a Mexican restaurant in Tucson.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Deputy Mayor Lane Santa Cruz, both Democrats, said in a joint statement that the enforcement operation in their city “quickly escalated into violence against the public.”
