OJ Simpson’s estate accepts $58m claim from father of Ron Goldman | Sport

OJ Simpson’s estate has agreed to a $58 million damages claim from Ron Goldman’s father, decades after a jury said the NFL star and actor was responsible for the man’s fatal stabbing.
But the amount far exceeds the assets of the Simpson estate, and it is unlikely that Goldman’s father, Fred, will receive anywhere near that full amount.
“It won’t be $58 million plus interest, but it will be a voluntary payment. That’s what matters,” Malcolm LaVergne, the estate’s administrator, said Monday.
LaVergne said he still hopes to increase total assets from $500,000 to $1 million.
Simpson died of cancer in 2024 at the age of 76. He was found not guilty in the 1994 stabbing deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in Los Angeles. However, Simpson was brought to trial again and found liable for the deaths in a separate civil case. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the families, an award that increased due to interest.
LaVergne accepted a $58 million claim, according to a court document filed Friday in Clark County, Nevada. The figure sought was 117 million dollars.
Fred Goldman’s attorney, Michaelle Rafferty, said the estate accepted the request as valid but “this does not constitute payment.”
“We will continue to monitor probate proceedings closely,” he said in an email.
Simpson lived in Las Vegas after serving nine years in prison for armed robbery, kidnapping and assault on charges related to a 2007 shootout with two sports memorabilia dealers in a hotel room. He generally refused to talk about his finances, except to say he was living in the NFL and in private retirement.
