Shastripuram ROB Opens After 5-Year Delay

Hyderabad: After a delay of over five years, the Shastripuram flyover road (ROB) was finally opened for vehicular traffic on Friday, providing much-needed relief to residents of the area due to frequent accidents, long waits at the railway crossing and heavy traffic congestion in the area. Local people, who have been waiting for the completion of ROB for years, celebrated the opening, saying that it brought long-awaited relief.
LC No. on Secunderabad-Falaknuma-Shivarampally railway line in Shastripuram. The flyover, built on 7, was inaugurated by IT minister D. Sridhar Babu. The bridge will facilitate seamless traffic flow from Mailardevpally to Falaknuma via Vattepally, reducing travel time by around 30 minutes. It is also expected to reduce fuel consumption and delays caused by railway crossings.
The works were carried out under engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode to ease traffic flow between Mailardevpally and Falaknuma RTC bus depot. The Rs 71 crore project has a total length of 490 metres, including the railway section of 37.28 metres, and a flyover width of 16.60 metres.
Syed Muneeruddin, a resident of Mughal Colony, said that earlier the road had a railway gate where people had to wait for a long time for trains to pass, causing heavy traffic and making travel difficult between Mailardevpally, Shastripuram, Engine Bowli and Charminar.
Ms Khadeer, another resident, said people had been waiting for the bridge for five years and were happy with its opening. He added that the bridge will ensure free movement of traffic, save fuel and reduce the hassle of daily commuting.
Local residents stated that about 20 accidents had previously occurred due to the lack of proper facilities at the railway crossing.
Md Mazar said that in emergency situations, people have to use longer routes, which causes many problems. He added that the previous government left the project incomplete and there was no proper fencing at the railway crossing.
Chief Government Whip (Legislative Council) Patnam Mahender Reddy, Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan and others were also present.
