Sheer boredom! England’s stars look unimpressed at Ed Sheeran’s awkward David Brent-style private gig at their World Cup camp

England fans joked that the Three Lions stars did not seem too keen on Ed Sheeran’s private concert at the World Cup base after highlighting the lukewarm response.

Sheeran visited the England camp earlier in the tournament and the singer performed for the team and staff after their final group match against Panama.

Footage of the secret concert was released on YouTube as part of the latest episode of the UK’s Extra Time series.

Sheeran performed an acoustic version of Castle On The Hill as part of his poolside set at England’s Inn at Meadowbrook hotel.

Fans were quick to respond to the footage, which highlighted the reaction many England players had to Sheeran.

John Stones and Morgan Rogers’ deadpan reactions struck a chord with fans, along with James Trafford and Ivan Toney’s silent applause for the performance.

“When the camera sees the disapproving faces of the Stones, Madueke, Rogers, and others, it makes me love this team even more,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “Not the most patriotic person but after seeing the disdain the England team have for Ed Sheeran I now want them to win the World Cup more than anything in this world.”

A third added: ‘I don’t think the Stones are fans of Ed Sheeran.’

‘Are you going to put the team through an Ed Sheeran concert to mentally prepare them for the Norway game? ‘I see you,’ commented another.

Despite the perception of reluctance among the players, the footage also shows Sheeran being greeted by captain Harry Kane and Rogers.

While the team took photos with the singer, Sheeran was seen arguing with Anthony Gordon and laughing with the Stones.

Sheeran explained how his visits to the England camp have become a tradition over the years after he was first invited by Kane during the 2021 European Championship.

“In 2021, Harry sent me to camp and then I met everyone and since then I’ve been to them all,” the singer said in the latest episode of Extra Time on YouTube.

Sheeran visited the camp in Kansas while continuing his latest tour in the United States.

After Thomas Tuchel’s team got past the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the last 32, England, who secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Mexico in the last 16, are preparing for the quarter-finals against Norway on Saturday.

Referring to England’s hopes, Sheeran expressed his confidence that the Three Lions can lift the World Cup and that he expects them to beat France in the final.

‘I think it will be the England-France final,’ he said. ‘I think everyone can win when you reach the final and it will be us.’
