Peckham fire LIVE: London chaos as huge blaze erupts near Copeland Park with smoke in sky | UK | News

A massive fire broke out near Copeland Park in Peckham, London, as black smoke filled the sky. Social media reports say the fire started at the Khan’s Bargains store on Rye Lane, but this has not been confirmed by the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

Footage published on X showed thick clouds of dark gray smoke in the sky as firefighters began to battle the blaze. In its update, the LFB said: “Firefighters are responding to a fire on Rye Lane in Peckham. “The fire is producing significant smoke and residents are currently advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

“Traffic in the area is also likely to be affected, so members of the public are advised to avoid the area if possible. Two of the brigade’s 32-metre spiral staircases were deployed at the scene. Control Officers received the first of more than 30 calls at 2054. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
