Singleton trio on track to maintain winning form at Grafton

Scone trainer Scott Singleton’s steady stream of recent winners has ensured the horseman is set to continue his form when the five-meeting Grafton July carnival begins on Sunday.
Singleton found success at Tamworth on Friday with Oakfield Utah bowing and will send three live chances to Grafton with Mikayla Weir partnering the trio.
In-form galloper Copperline will make it three wins in a row since resuming the Maclean Hotel Country Boosted Belflyer Prelude Class 3 Handicap (1115m) and Singleton is confident of another forward showing.
“He did his job well to win in both starts after his time at Scone,” Singleton said.
“He has good pace and has been involved in the race from the start and has managed to stay strong off the line in both Scone wins.
“He’s got a bit of an odd draw on Sunday but he should be able to handle it.”
Singleton has another recent start winner in the form of Spenzalot, who ran in the CJM Lawyers Grafton Cup Prelude (2230m).
Spenzalot was in the third of the spell last produced when he stepped up to score against Tamworth and Singleton believes he can feature prominently again.
“He was strong in the Tamworth win and he’s still on the rise,” Singleton said.
“The horse he beat [Bellini Spritz] He’s come out and won since then, so the form looks good.
Singleton and Weir will round off the Grafton meeting with another late start winner when Haras compete in the Country Mud Here On South Cup Grade 1 Handicap (1215m) on Sunday.
It was at Haras when Weir broke his first maiden with a strong Tamworth victory when he was third after a spell; The filly went on to finish seventh at Scone and second at Moree.
“She is a progressive filly who has shown her talents since her first start when she finished third at Scone,” Singleton said.
“He’s gone forward and had a good win at Tamworth on his last start. There’s no reason why he can’t run very well again and be in the finish.”
