Sir Alex Ferguson taken to hospital after feeling unwell at Old Trafford ahead of Man United vs Liverpool

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital from Old Trafford this afternoon after feeling unwell at the stadium.
It is understood that the 84-year-old footballer has received medical care purely as a precaution and club officials are optimistic that he will recover at home soon.
Sir Alex, the most successful manager in the club’s history, is a regular at United’s home and away matches and was at Old Trafford today ahead of the big Premier League match between his club and their great rivals Liverpool.
It is understood he was taken to hospital more than an hour before kick-off.
Ferguson recovered from the brain hemorrhage he suffered in 2018 after surgery. There is nothing to indicate that this incident is related.

Ferguson, who retired as Manchester United manager in 2013, has had to face a series of life-changing challenges in recent years.
He underwent life-saving surgery after suffering a sudden brain hemorrhage in May 2018.
Ferguson was given a 20 per cent chance of survival by doctors, but he showed every ounce of his fighting spirit to defy the odds and recover.
“There were five brain hemorrhages that day,” Ferguson, who was 79 at the time, said in his 2021 report.Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give Up‘ movie. ‘Three are dead. Two survived. You know you’re lucky.’
Ferguson, a thirteen-time Premier League champion, also suffered the great sadness of losing his wife Cathy in 2023.
Ferguson’s wife of 57 years, Lady Cathy, has died at the age of 84.
Despite losing his ambassador role, Manchester United remained a constant in Ferguson’s life.
In 2024, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe canceled Ferguson’s paid ambassadorial role as part of drastic cost-cutting measures that saw United’s staff cut by hundreds.
But that didn’t stop Ferguson from becoming a familiar face in the directors’ box.

‘I sat with Alex, the only two of us in the room. And I said, ‘Look, the club is not where you think it is.’ He spends more than he earns and we will encounter some difficulties. Ratcliffe explained a year ago: To be honest, we really can’t afford to keep paying you £2 million a year.
‘And I said, ‘I’ll leave it up to you, think about it.’ He had grown so much. He might be a little grumpy at first, but he gets it.
‘He came back three days later after talking to his son and said, ‘Okay, I’ll give it up. “It’s my decision,” he said.
Ratcliffe added: ‘I think it reflects very well on Alex because he put the club before himself.’
