Sky TV down as thousands of viewers report outages across the UK

Sky TV has been shut down across the UK, with thousands of viewers reporting outages.

Customers accused Sky of “unacceptable service” after complaining about not receiving any updates from the network for several hours after the issue first emerged.

According to Downdetector, more than 8,000 people were reporting problems with the network just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, when the problems peaked.

The problems appeared to start just before 3 a.m., peaked a few hours later, and by Saturday morning hundreds of problems were still being reported.

The online platform shows that 8 percent of viewers experienced complete blackout.

Affected areas listed include Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, London, Southampton and Derby.

The majority of the issues appear to be on Sky TV, but streaming is also affected.

Customers expressed their sadness about this situation on social media.

One of them said: “There seems to be a problem with Sky TV nationally, no satellite signal for many. But zero updates, unacceptable service.”

Another added: “@skytv. Well, Good Morning, Sky! Any chance you’d be so kind as to let us know what’s going on? Nobody can access live TV. It’s clearly been going on for hours already, but no a) correction, b) update or c) apology yet.”

Independent Sky has been approached for comment.

The latest outage comes after tens of thousands of Sky TV customers reported being unable to watch TV last May.

Many of those affected said their televisions kept crashing and they were unable to watch live programmes.

Some users said a message popped up saying there was no signal, while others said they were unable to view online content even if their internet connection was good.

Sky Q box users said trying to load programs didn’t work and their box would crash on startup even after unplugging their TV.

It is understood that a technical issue has caused some Sky Q boxes to enter a standby state.

A Sky spokesman said at the time: “We are sorry that some customers had trouble accessing Sky Q last night. The issue was quickly resolved and the service was restored.”
