ECI introduces new QR code-based ID cards for counting centres

The Election Commission on Thursday, April 30, 2026, introduced the QR code-based photo ID card system to eliminate the possibility of unauthorized persons entering counting centers.
The system will be expanded to cover all future general and by-elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies after being introduced during the May 4 counting for Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry Assembly elections and by-elections in seven Assembly constituencies in five states, the EC said in a statement.
