Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) New York City co-chair Gustavo Gordillo said Thursday on MS NOW that his organization would be “thrilled” if Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) decides to run for president in 2028.
In light of another DSA-backed candidate defeating the Democratic incumbent in the Colorado primary, “MS NOW Reports” host Antonia Hylton asked Gordillo if her organization had begun any work on the 2028 presidential election.
“I think we’ll try to influence the next presidential primary,” Gordillo replied. “And how…it’s too early to tell who.”

He added, “You know, I think a lot of people in the organization would be very excited if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were to run, but ultimately it’s her decision and we’ll talk.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office for comment.
On Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, who was first elected to Congress in 1996 and took office in 1997, lost to first-time candidate and DSA-backed Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old former attorney.
WHEN ASKED ABOUT AOC’S AVAILABILITY IN 2028, CARVILLE SAID DEMS NEEDS ‘SOMEONE WHO CAN WIN THIS GOD THING’
Kiros’ stunning victory came a week after Darializa Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old progressive community organizer in New York City, unseated incumbent Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and another DSA-aligned candidate, state Assemblywoman Claire Valdez, won the congressional primary to replace retiring Rep. Nydia Velázquez.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her support for these candidates despite Chevalier’s past controversial comments, such as calling the United States a “fucking disgrace.” In an interview with MS NOW’s Jen Psaki last week, he encouraged Democrats in Congress to show more support for DSA-backed candidates.

“I actually think the most important advice I would give to my incumbent colleagues would be that by deciding who these young women are before you even meet them, you will create a self-fulfilling prophecy,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Ocasio-Cortez has yet to commit to running for president in 2028 and was coy when asked about it by Fox News Digital last month.
