Earnings and Interest Rates Continue to Be Key Drivers of the Market, Analyst Says
The biggest lesson from the first half was that “earnings are more important than anything else, except interest rates,” Orion chief investment officer Tim Holland said, as quoted by CNBC.
The second quarter was particularly positive for investors as concerns about AI trading eased and the dispute moved closer to resolution.
Holland said he expects the bull market to expand for the rest of the year if hostilities between the United States and Iran do not increase, according to the report.
“The world continues to focus on AI capex generation and AI trading, and I think so too, but if you look deeper into the market, you’ll see that value stocks have been running as opposed to growth stocks year to date and at least for June as well,” he explained. “Interest rates are probably going to move up a little bit, which tends to be a headwind for higher-priced growth stocks, but it tends to be a headwind for economically sensitive stocks and the like.” Quote from CNBC.

Semiconductor-focused exchange-traded funds continued their remarkable performance.
The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) gained nearly 70% in the second quarter, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) gained nearly 94%, putting both on track for their strongest quarterly performance on record.
Among chipmakers, Micron gained nearly 240% in the quarter, while Nvidia gained less than 14% in the same period.
