Stephen King hopes Graham Platner stays in Maine race amid allegation

Maine Democratic Party urges Platner to drop out of Senate race after new allegations
Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing serious sexual assault accusations from his ex-girlfriend Jenny Racicot. Platner denied the allegations, stating that “any accusation of non-consensual conduct is categorically false.” The controversy led Congressman Ro Khanna to withdraw his support and call for Platner to step down by July 13 to be replaced by another name.

Liberal author and famed Maine author Stephen King threw his support behind embattled Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner on Monday amid growing calls for him to drop out of the race.
The political environment was shaken when the sexual assault allegation against Platner emerged on Monday. Jenny Racicot, one of Platner’s ex-girlfriends, claimed to Politico that he drunkenly broke into her home in 2021 and raped her. Platner denied the accusations.
With Platner’s future in the Maine Senate race at stake, the iconic creator of “The Shining” and “It” is hoping not to throw in the towel.

“So, regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful of the political reality it will engender, we are taking time to reflect on the best path forward for the state I love, the people I love, the movement to which I belong, and the goal of defeating Susan Collins,” Platner said in the video. “Those were my goals when we started this campaign, and they continue to be my goals today.”
