Storm Chandra batters Devon as floodwaters submerge riverside cafe | News

Heavy rain from Storm Chandra caused damage to a cafe in Devon; As a result of the overflow of a nearby river, the cafe was flooded and damaged.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a severe flood warning in Ottery St Mary, with the River Otter rising to its highest level on record – meaning there could be a danger to life.

Video footage of Otterton Mill shows floodwaters rushing past the riverside cafe. Manager Chris Wright told Independent He said that the water penetrated the building “in a very short time” and sank up to his knees.

“The situation right now is pretty devastating,” he explained. He also expressed concern about the cost of repairing any damage, especially given the business was still trying to recover from a fire in June last year.
