Stray Cats cancel fall tour due to Brian Setzer’s ‘serious illness’

The Stray Cats have canceled their US tour due to frontman Brian Setzer’s ongoing health problems.

On Tuesday, Setzer and the band, who were scheduled to kick off their fall tour this past weekend and play through the end of November, took to social media to share the news with their fans.

“I am heartbroken, I cannot go on stage due to a serious illness and unfortunately I have to cancel our Stray Cats tour,” Setzer, 66, said. instagram. “I know this has affected a lot of people and I’m devastated to have to break this news. I’ve tried everything I can to keep going and do these shows, but it just isn’t possible. I was so looking forward to being on stage with my bandmates again and playing for all our amazing fans and I’m gutted.”

Fans were quick to offer their support.

“Your health is the most important thing!” one fan commented. “You gave us a lifetime of music! We got you!”

“Please take care of yourself, your health first!” someone else wrote. “Don’t worry about us, we will support you no matter what!”

Earlier this year, Setzer announced that he had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

Setzer, who shared close-up photos of his hands while playing the guitar in his post on Instagram, said: “Towards the end of the last Stray Cats tour, I noticed that my hands were cramping. Since then, I discovered that I have an autoimmune disease. I cannot play the guitar.”

He continued: “There’s no pain at all, but when I try to play it feels like I’m wearing gloves. I’ve seen some improvement in holding a pencil and tying my shoes. I know it sounds silly, but I was to the point where I couldn’t even do that.”

Setzer thanked the Mayo Clinic for working with him on the treatment, writing: “Fortunately, I have the best hospital in the world a block away from me.”

“I know I will beat this, it will just take some time. I love you all,” she concluded.

Setzer rose to fame in the 1980s when his band The Stray Cats played. 1950s rockabilly inspired. After the band’s breakup in 1984, Setzer went solo and later formed the Brian Setzer Orchestra, a 17-piece big band ensemble in the 1990s.

Setzer, who has toured regularly over the years, wrapped up a run of shows last summer and most recently released his solo album, “The Devil Always Collects,” in 2023.
