Sudan plane crash: Aircraft explodes into fireball with all passengers killed | World | News

A Cessna plane crashed in South Sudan on Monday, killing all 13 passengers and the pilot, the civil aviation authority said. The plane crashed in bad weather conditions and burst into flames on the outskirts of Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
Initial reports indicate that the plane coming from the town of Yei may have crashed due to weather conditions that caused poor visibility. The civil aviation authority said that two Kenyans were among the dead, while the rest were South Sudanese. The official said a team was sent to the area, about 12 miles outside Juba. Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation lost communication while flying from Yei to Juba International Airport. It appears that air traffic control lost contact with the plane 30 minutes into the approximately 80-mile journey. Videos from the crash scene shared on social media showed the remains of the plane in flames.
The aviation authority also said a team was sent to the area to gather information and support emergency services.
As reported by BBCMore than 55 planes have crashed in the country in the decade following independence in 2011, resulting in dozens of deaths.
In January 2025, 20 oil workers died when their plane heading to Juba crashed three minutes after takeoff near the oil fields of the northern Unity state.
The BBC also reported that the worst plane crash was in November 2015, when an Antonov plane crashed near Juba airport, killing 41 people.
