Australia edges closer to recognising Palestinian state

A senior international law expert says that Australia has been preparing to watch a few major Western powers to recognize a Palestinian state at an upcoming United Nations meeting.

G7 Nations France, England and Canada have committed to recognizing Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September due to the increasing pressure of Israel’s pressure in Gaza.

Donald Rothwell, Professor of National University of Australia, said Australia is ready to join them after a significant change in the rhetoric in recent weeks.

“Everything right now points to positioning itself to make an announcement about the recognition of Palestine.” He said.

Prof Rothwell said that the Arnaven government “softened” in the last two weeks of recognizing Palestine.

Authorized, “The Prime Minister goes to the United Nations General Assembly and Australian Prime Minister has passed since there was a long time.” He said.

“I’m sure the Prime Minister wants to make a sense of importance there, and this will be clearly an important announcement.”

Prof Rothwell also drew attention to Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s latest comments on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Israel’s plan to occupy the region.

“The two -state solution really shifts as a result of Israel’s campaign, and Australia does not want to lose this opportunity,” he said.

In a joint statement with some other countries on Saturday, Senator Wong said that countries are determined to apply a two -state solution to ensure peace for the Israeli and Palestinian people.

“A political decision based on a two -state solution, which is negotiated, requires Hamas to be completely excluded from any governance in the Gaza Strip, which should be a central role of Palestinian authority.” He said.

Interior Minister Tony Burke appeared on Sunday to soften the government’s attitude towards Hamas, a terrorist organization listed in Australia, in the Palestinian state.

He said that the terrorist forces invaded Australia as an example of Syria and Iraq.

Prof Rothwell said that Syria and Iraq were different from Palestine because Australia recognized them long before ISIS emerged and took control of the majority.

“The minister talks to the point … Once upon a time, Hamas may play a role in this Palestinian state, but this does not see that he has visited the recognition of Australia again.”

Mr. Burke may be pointing to more nuance in the developing position of Australia – Hamas said he could be ready to move towards the recognition of Palestine while Hamas continues to play a role in Gaza.
