Sudden Showers Drench Hyderabad After Clear Skies

Hyderabad: After more than a week of clear skies, brief but heavy rains lashed parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday afternoon. The sudden downpour following a bright post-Diwali morning caught travelers off guard but brought a welcome respite from the lingering humidity.
South Hasthinapuram in LB Nagar recorded 25 mm of rainfall, followed by 23 mm in Vanasthalipuram and 16.8 mm in Bandlaguda, according to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS). Districts like Miyapur, Mettuguda, Patancheru and Begumpet also received rainfall between 10 and 14 mm. Across Telangana, Nalgonda district topped the list with 38.5 mm, followed by Nagarkurnool (37.3 mm) and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri (36 mm).
Meteorologists attributed the change in weather conditions to the deep depression in the southeastern Bay of Bengal. This depression is expected to intensify in the next 24 hours and move towards the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh coast. The system, linked to a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level, draws significant moisture inland, leading to scattered rainfall across Telangana.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies for Hyderabad with chances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next few days. “Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of up to 30-40 km per hour are expected in some parts of the city and surrounding districts,” an IMD official said. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 31°C and 23°C respectively.
Weather blogger T. Balaji warned residents of “short but heavy bursts of rain” in areas like Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Saroornagar, Chandrayangutta, Rajendranagar and Khairtabad, adding that the activity may continue throughout the night. A TGDPS scientist said these were short-term showers associated with the Bay of Bengal system and advised citizens not to panic and be careful of possible waterlogging and sudden winds in low-lying areas.
Elsewhere in Telangana, the weather department has issued a heavy rain warning for Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts from October 24 to 26. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in parts of Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet and Vikarabad.
