Ajit Pawar keen on reuniting NCP factions, merger planned for February 12: Jayant Patil
Nationalist Congress Party (SP) senior leader Jayant Patil on Saturday, January 31, 2026, claimed that senior leaders of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP such as Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare and Chhagan Bhujbal were aware of the merger of the two groups, saying that the merger was completed in mid-January and was planned to be announced in mid-February.
According to Mr. Patil, the party decided on the merger on January 16 and planned to announce the merger on February 8 after the Zilla Parishad elections scheduled on February 5. However, this was postponed to February 12 as Mr Patil had to attend a wedding in Delhi at that time.
