Supply teacher Abusali Rahman pleads guilty to taking over 100 upskirt photos of school pupils

A former supply teacher has pleaded guilty to taking more than 100 upskirt photos of his students.

Abusali Rahman, 36, admitted 21 offenses at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday.

Rahman, who appeared via video link from HMP Altcourse, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of taking an indecent photograph of a child by upskirting, four counts of publishing an obscene article, three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, one count of voyeurism and one count of distributing an indecent photograph of a child.

Rahman, a British national of Bangladeshi ethnicity from Salford, worked in schools in the North West.

He will be sentenced on September 1.

Defense lawyer Emma Kehoe said: “Mr Rahman knew this was a prison sentence but he was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time.”

He requested a psychiatric report before the sentence.

Recorder Geoffrey Lowe said: “This is a complex situation.”

Manchester Police said Rahman was arrested in June 2025 after a parent raised concerns about a photo of their child in school uniform being circulated on social media.

Speaking outside court, Detective Sergeant Simon France said the criminal charges were the result of a “painstaking and comprehensive investigation”.

He said: “We received the first reports that Abusali Rahman was suspected of committing crimes in March 2025 and he was arrested in June of the same year.

“The offenses are alleged to have occurred between December 2023 and 2025 at several secondary schools across the North West.

“Officers and staff working on this investigation, including our victim identification team, went to great lengths to build a case against Rahman and bring charges against him.

“This included our digital research unit, which analyzed nearly 1,000 images last year.”

He said police had been in contact with all the schools where Rahman had worked since he became a qualified teacher in 2023.
