Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy passes away: An orator par excellence who led student, youth and farmers’ struggles in the country

The experienced communist leader, the former Communist Party of India (CPI) Secretary General and twice Parliament Member Surem Sudhakar Redy was treated in a private hospital in Haydarabad while he died on Friday, August 22, 2025. He was 83 years old.

His health has worsening in recent days and he was defeated after the heart stop. He survived by his wife Bv Vijayalakshmi and his two sons Nikhil and Kapil, a senior belonging to a senior.

The last rituals will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, as their eldest son is expected to come from the United States. Mr. Redy’s fatal remains will be held at the Makhdoom Bhavan CPI State Office from 10 am on Sunday to respect the public. The funeral procession will take place in the afternoon, after which the body will be delivered to Gandhi Medical College for research and fulfill its request. His eyes will be donated to Sarojini giant eye hospital.

The news of his death was shocked by the CPI cadres in TaLantgana a few minutes after the 4th conference of CPI Telangana Province was finalized on Friday. CPI Secretary General D. Raja, National Secretaries K. Narayana and Syed Aziz Pasha, the state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and others, including the party leaders ran to the hospital to pay their respect. K. Srinivas Redy, the President of the Telangana Media Academy, CPI Haydarabad Regional Secretary Stalin and many joined them.

Sudhakar Redy has served as a member of Parliament twice from the Nalgond Election Zone (1998 and 2004) and presided over the Labor Party Permanent Committee, which he was influential in the preparation of a welfare bill for non -organized workers. He also represented India at the United Nations General Assembly.

In 2008, he became the Deputy Secretary General of the CPI and in 2012 he was elected the 9th Secretary General of the Party at the Patna Congress. He was re -selected in Pudducherry (2015) and Kollam (2018). He resigned in 2019 due to illness.

Born on March 25, 1942 in Kondrevupalli in the Combined Mahbnagar region, Surem came from a strong intellectual and reformist heritage. The legendary editor Surem was the nephew of Pratap Redy. Golconda Patrika And the pioneer of the Cultural Renaissance. His father Venkatram Redy was a fighter of freedom.

Mr. Sudhakar Reddy completed his school in Kurnool, graduated from Kurnool, Osmania Degree College, and then followed LLB at Hyderabad Osmania University Law College. In student movements, he actively rose in the ranks of the entire Indian Student Federation (AISF) and the entire Indian Youth Federation (AIYF), and eventually he became the Secretary General of both India of both organizations and played a key role in student and youth struggles throughout the country.

He worked extensively among agricultural workers known for his oratory skills and pioneered the struggles in Nalgonda, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Kurnool. He took part in the forefront of agitations against electricity hikes and land struggles.

His condolences flowed from the political spectrum. Prime Minister A. Revanth Reddy, BRS President and former CM K. ChandraShekar Rao, TPCC head Maesh Kumar Goud, expressed their grief with various parties and leaders of civil society.
