Surfers return to the water a week after northern beaches tragedy

One week after his death in a popular Sydney Beach, the surfles returned to the water to honor the shark attack victim Mercury Plislakis.

57 -year -old Plillalakis was killed when he was taken by a shark, adolescent was believed to be a large white, on September 6 at 10 am. The board was cut in two and lost both legs.

A few minutes before being attacked, with his presence, he warned the surfers in water and called on them to group them together.

“Merc is deeply loved by everyone who knows him,” he said last week.

“Merci was impossible not to like – his energy was extraordinary and magnetic, his spirit was full of fun and he created joy and happiness in every interaction he touched.”

On Saturday, Friends and Family returned to Dee, Surf Lifesavers patrolled on the northern beaches and the drones watched the water from above.

“There is fear, but we must lean on fear,” says Toby Martin, a friend of former professional surfers and psillakis Nine news.
