Svims Adds Advanced Cancer, Cardiac ,Diagnostic Facilities Worth Rs 55 Crore

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (Svims) on Thursday inaugurated three advanced healthcare facilities worth around Rs 55 billion aimed at strengthening cancer, cardiac and neurological treatment services.

The facilities were inaugurated by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) president BR Naidu under the Sri Balaji Arogyavaraprasadini scheme. New installations include PET CT Scan, Gamma Camera and High Energy Advanced Linear Accelerator.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, the TTD chairman said that the government is taking steps to develop Svims into a world-class healthcare institution that will provide advanced treatment facilities to the people of Rayalaseema at affordable costs. He said the equipment will support early detection and treatment of cancer, heart disease and neurological disorders.

According to him, the PET CT Scanning machine, installed at a cost of around Rs 18 billion, will help detect cancer and other critical diseases at an early stage. The Gamma Camera, purchased at a cost of Rs 5 billion, will help assess organ function and tissue abnormalities through imaging technology. He said that it would be useful in diagnosing diseases related to the heart, brain, thyroid, kidney and bones, apart from infections and cancer.

The linear accelerator, installed at a cost of Rs 29 crore, will provide precision-based radiation therapy to cancer patients by targeting tumors and minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues, the TTD chairman said. He said that it would be especially useful in the treatment of brain, breast, prostate and lung cancers.

Svims director and vice-rector Dr. RV Kumar said the institution has grown for over three decades with the support of TTD. He said that medical infrastructure worth around Rs 450 billion has been created so far, while construction work worth around Rs 600 billion is in progress under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Dr Kumar said a dedicated cancer block at Svims will become operational in the next two months. He added that the institution is also planning robotic surgeries, virtual dissection systems and advanced simulation facilities for medical students. He said that equipment worth Rs 105 billion has been purchased so far through CSR contributions and the Sri Balaji Arogyavaraprasadini scheme.
