Scrapping key qualifications for over-16s could leave thousands unemployed, government warned

In a report, tens of thousands of students will be left to employment as a result of government plans for post -16 vocational courses.
The warning comes because the government plans to withdraw financing for a number of practical general qualifications (AGQ), such as BTECs. The purchase of the government’s technical courses (T levels) is also low.
A report of the Protection Student Selection Campaign has determined the risk of “reversing ında in the expansion of access to higher education, which reduces the student option for post -16 qualifications, and this is not in employment of more young people.
In his latest report, the campaign, including the organizations representing students and personnel in schools and schools, calls the curriculum and evaluation examination in his latest report to suggest that “the prohibition of extended diplomas in the AGQ diplomas and T-Level fields and reversing expanded diplomas”.
AGQs are level 3 qualifications containing BTECs for students who want to do a wide work in a particular professional field.
In December, the Labor Party Government announced that 157 vocational competence, which the previous conservative administration plans to abolish financing, will be kept beyond July this year until the reform qualities were determined in the system.
After the review of the “overlapping” level qualifications with their T-loves, the government will be financed by July 2026 in digital, construction and health and science.
Engineering, agriculture, business and creative in the field of 100 more competence will maintain financing until July 2027.
The first T level courses, which are thought to be widely equivalent to three A level, were launched in the UK in 2020 and gradually released.
The guidance of the Training Department (DFE), which was published in February, summarized the plans to remove financing from “big qualities” in a series of T level subject subject in the future.
An analysis of the Protection Student Choice campaign adds that if the financing is removed for the AGQs in this field, there can be 52,000 younger young people studying health and science courses every year and about 11,000 younger young people can examine digital courses each year.
He said that more than 200,000 students have read the AGQs, which are currently a “scrapped or uncertain future ,, which made colleges and schools to plan the curriculum, hire the right personnel and train or provide appropriate guidance to young students.
In the report, he said: uz We are deeply concerned that the blanket ban for the government’s blanket for diplomas and expanded diplomas will create a gap of a quality gap that tens of thousands of students will potentially fall and leave many young people without a suitable way in the future. ”
Sixth Form Training All-Party Parliament Group President Gareth Snell said, “Sixth forms and colleges in the country know the vital role to help AGQ students’ progress to higher education or talented employment.
“Limiting the choice of qualification on some issues with T-love will leave some young people without a suitable way at the age of 16 and without the talented labor they need.”
Professor Martin Green, General Manager of Care England, said: “qualifications such as diploma and expanded diploma in the field of health and social care are very valuable by adult social care providers in the UK to introduce young people to career in social care.
“It will close a well -established path to scrape these qualities and enter the profession and worse the labor crisis in the care sector for a younger population where we are willing to promote access.”
“We strongly recommend the government to protect these popular and valuable general qualities.
“We support the promotion of T levels, but we do not understand why this should be at the expense of other tried and reliable professional qualities that work well for many students.
“At a time when we see an increasing number of young people in education, employment or education, it is absolutely important that we offer a post -16 road option instead of narrowing their options and getting worse.”
A DFE spokesman said: “Thanks to our change plan, we create a skill system that will put forward the opportunity and provide the growth of our economy.
“T-Seviyeler will be at the forefront of our technical training proposal. In addition to these, the new reform qualities will be presented for delivery at the beginning of the next academic year.
“These comply with high -quality, professional standards on technical roads and offer students open to higher education or talented employment.
“The position of the department on the level of level 3 will be informed by the independent curriculum and evaluation review.”
