T.N. emerging as a high quality host for international, national sports events: Stalin

Chief Minister MK Stalin said on Tuesday that Tamil Nadu has emerged as a high-quality host for international and national sports events. He was present at the farewell ceremony of the Prime Minister’s Cup 2025 at the Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium in Chennai.

The CM said that the sports sector in Tamil Nadu has witnessed a golden era under the DMK government and added that sports has also joined the list of sectors in which Tamil Nadu has achieved success.

Stating that only ₹ 170 crore was allocated to sports infrastructure during the five years of the erstwhile AIADMK regime, the Chief Minister said the DMK government allocated ₹ 610 crore to the sector in the four years of its tenure.

Mr. Stalin said that more than 16.28 lakh people registered online to participate in the CM Trophy this year, of which more than 32,000 participated in State-level sports events after being selected from district-level events.

Urging athletes to excel in their respective fields to bring success to the state and the country, Mr. Stalin listed various measures taken by the DMK government for the development of sports in Tamil Nadu.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the purpose behind organizing CM Trophy every year is to identify and unearth the talents of sportspersons in Tamil Nadu.

Touching on the various avenues of support provided by the Tamil Nadu government and the Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin urged the athletes to take advantage of such opportunities to hone their skills.

Chennai Mayor R. Priya, Central Chennai MP Dayanidhi Maran, Egmore MLA I. Paranthamen and senior officials were present at the event.
